In recent years I've had several mopeds such as a Gilera Shifter, a Tomos and a Mobylette SP 93. Now I had been looking for an electric moped for a while but I wanted to keep driving in style. That wasn't easy. In the Netherlands I found nothing anyway. In America I did see beautiful mopeds but delivery to the Netherlands is difficult and the rules are different.
Friends of mine visited the Dutch Design Week and came up with the Brekr. After a week I had made the choice and ordered a Brekr. At the Motorbeurs in Utrecht I visited Brekr because I hadn't seen the moped yet.
The first time I saw the Brekr online, I knew right away that this was the moped I was looking for. Many electric mopeds look like old mopeds than run on fuel. The design of Brekr is a nice mix of moped and electric. I hadn't seen the moped when I bought it. With the images on the internet I had some doubts whether the Brekr might be a bit low or small. Those doubts were gone after seeing and feeling the Brekr at the Motorbeurs. I fit on it wonderfully and the Brekr is a bit bigger and tougher than it looks in some of the pictures.
For me there is no other product that comes close to the Brekr. I think it's incredibly cool. The fact that the product was developed in the Netherlands and is built here gave me extra confidence. If it would be not good, I can make sure it would be solved by them. Service and warranty are important, especially when you buy a new product that is completely new.
Batman? Wonder Woman? We think a combination of those two. (Picture: Dora de Jong)
I use the Brekr mainly for pleasure rides, just for touring. Often I go to Rotterdam or The Hague for a cup of coffee. With the range of the Brekr that's no problem at all. I can go up and down four times without having to recharge. Of course I can also go to the city by car, but it's way more fun with the Brekr. I take a nicer route, see more, it feels freer and I'm outside. There is always a parking spot nearby and it's free too.
It's a whole new experience. Completely quiet! I have a lot of moped experience, but this is 'next level'. I also regularly take rides with my girlfriend and then you really feel like you're riding in a movie. Tasty futuristic and much better and more fun than a moped on fuel. No shifting, direct response. If you want to accelerate, you're immediately gone.
Many people who are interested in vehicles and technology live in Delft. Everyone here seems obsessed with this moped and wants to ride it. You really feel like a pioneer, a trendsetter. I am being addressed every day that people find the Brekr so bold. And tough!
